On the slightly sceptical side I'd point out that maybe he "reacted too" and maintained eye contact with you simply because he was startled to see you staring at him with a look of shock on your face!

Having said that, by amazing coincidence just two days ago I was telling someone about an almost identical encounter I had in a dream , a few months before meeting him . Basically in the dream the other person looked me straight in the eye, which was a unique sensation for a dream, and with a unspoken sense of confusion/bewilderment to see me there, as if he knew me from some other time and place. When I woke up I told people about it,half jokingly wondering if like in a movie the other man had been out there somewhere dreaming too. To cut the story short a few months later went on a trip with a group of friends and met up with a local friend I'd only known online..all the surrounding details of the day made me identify that meeting as the (precognitive )subject of the dream. The sense of familiarity and confusion in the real version didn't come from him though, but from me, as he reminded me so much of an existing friend.

That was two years ago and I only told HIM the above account 2 days ago, and now have accidentally stumbled on this page, which is an extra layer of odd.
